BI 3224 Week III

Dr Farouk mentioned something about a quiz which we needed to hand in to him as a group task. He mentioned last week, and for those who missed it, I'll just cut/paste it from my old post.

Calculate with chemical structure the pathway and ATP energy output for one glucose molecule.
We need to familiarize ourselves with the Citric Acid Cycle.

Oh we must hand it in on Monday next week (04/02/08), although he said the dateline was this Saturday before changing it to Monday. I'm not really sure, but just pass it up early to be on the safe side.

Also, can someone confirm with me whether there will be a lecture on Saturday this week?

PH 2229 Week III

Dr. Ayo has given us an assignment which is an essay about CMP (Condensed Matter Physics) and it is due on 11/02/08. I'll be updating the task list, and if you need more information, be sure to get a copy of the assignment (small paper given out by him).

The notes for his topic can be downloaded here.

Green Form / Final Course Registration

The final dates to register for our courses will be on the 6th, 9th and 11th February 2008. That means our green form will be updated to a yellow one and no further changes will be possible.

Make sure you get all the needed signatures by then so that you won't need to rush during that period. (bida english ku tarus).

6, 9 and 11th February 2008

CH 2506 Week III

There will be a test on the 14th of February on Thursday, 1.10pm at room FSM 2.18. I think it'll cover the topics Dr. Akbar Ali has taught us, and I suppose it's going to be the last lecture from him for this course.

BI 3224 & BI 3223 Week III

Very tired at the moment. So I'll make this post as brief as possible.

Lecture 5 - Cardiovascular I

[BI 3223]

Regarding the lecture during the practical session which was supposed to be from 10am-12pm, it is changed again from 9am to 11am at room FSM 1.12.

Week II Reminders

[Timetable]
I've updated the timetable accordingly. Hopefully this time there won't be any errors.

Here is the Excel file.

[BI 3224]

Don't forget that tomorrow we have a Practical Session which starts at 9am right after our Physics class.

If you missed it, you can get the practical lab script for tomorrow at:
Practical 1 - Locomotion (26th Jan)
We also had a supposedly open book quiz (more like a self-study thing) and the question was:

Calculate with chemical structure the pathway and ATP energy output for one glucose molecule.
We need to familiarize ourselves with the Citric Acid Cycle.

BI 3223 Week II

Finally!

Anyway there are no changes in the lecture times. Although the initial plan (supposedly the practical session was moved to saturday) is cancelled and we will still make use of our practical time on monday morning. Next monday (28th Jan), there will be a lecture session which will be conducted from 8am - 10.30am (or 10.00am - 12.00pm).

UPDATE : The lectures will be conducted from 10.00am onwards since 2.18 lecture theater is only free by then.

The lecture/practical/tutorial timetable will hopefully be finalized on Thursday.

The lecture notes were given out by our kind lecturer, Dr. Tennakoon. If you don't have a copy, please ask for a copy from him. I've e-mailed him regarding the lecture notes, I'm asking him for a digital(soft) copy so that it can be accessible from this blog. ;)

BI 3224 Week II Updates

I managed to get a copy of the Practical scripts today. Want it? see below to download..

Practical 1 - Locomotion (26th Jan)
Practical 2 - Frog Heart (9th Feb)
Practical 3 - Spirometry (15th Mar)
Practical 4 - not yet known (29 Mar)

Also, I've added the course outline. Check my previous post on BI 3224 Course Intro to download it.

PH 2229 & PH 2230 old lecture notes

These are last years notes. I'm not sure if there are any changes for this year, but hopefully these notes will be of help. WARNING: These files are large (PH 2230 is 13Mb, PH 2229 is 15Mb and Condensed Matter is 25Mb).

BI 3224 Week II

I finally managed to get a copy of last weeks lecture notes.

I can't seem to upload it at the moment as Rapidshare Premium is down (can't get to the login page somehow).

UPDATE: Finally got it uploaded.

Anyway, we will continue to have our lectures on Monday (1pm-2pm), Tuesday (4pm-5pm) and Saturday morning (when we don't have lectures) on 16 Feb and 22 March.

The tutorials will be conducted on Tuesdays (8am-9am).

Practical Dates: 26th Jan, 9th Feb, 15th Mar, 29th Mar and 12th April.

BI 3224 Format

Question 2: Learning outcome for the course outline. Summarize, maximum of 10 points.

The dateline for this assignment is next week, Thursday (22/01/08).

Lecture notes were provided. I'll try to upload it as soon as I get a copy.

Timetable Updated.

There were some mistakes on the previous timetable posted, so I've updated it.

The other class for BI 3224 (previously posted as Wednesday 9am) and its tutorial will be confirmed soon.

Inorganic Textbook CH 2605

If you haven't checked your UBD e-mail already, here's the e-mail from Dr. Wimmer:

I have been searching for a suitable textbook on inorganic chemistry for CH2605, that covers all aspects of the subject with reasonable theoretical and descriptive sections.

I belive that such a book is:

Inorganic Chemistry (2nd Edition) (paperback) by Catherine Housecroft, Alan G. Sharpe

The Amazon price is US$137 plus postage. You can look up the publisher's web site
